Alex's Shoe Factory; Granada, Nicaragua 2009

"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."  Matthew 6:33
"You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you." Psalm 128:2

The main room of the shoe factory is filled with men, and some women, working hard to make a small living.  The employees are paid based on each shoe they make.

Don Pablo and his sons work here together daily.  One of his sons, Emanuel, is his apprentice.  He is 14 years old.

Don Pablo's other son, Carlos, is putting some adhesive on the soles before they are attached to the bottom of the shoe.  Carlos is 15 years old.

Don Pablo Reyes has been working in shoe factories for 35 years.

Waiting for materials to be passed through the fence.

Leather and cloth

The smell of the shoe factory is comparable to rubber cement and burning leather.

"I am Juan and what?"

Don Pablo heading home from work.

The Reyes Castillo's home.

Don Pablo's 17 year old daughter and her son.  Her and her husband live across the street from her parents.

Don Pablo's two sons after work.  It is common for each of them to work 8 hour days and then head to school at 6 pm.

Catholic Orphanage For Girls; Granada, Nicaragua 2009

Playing with jacks.

Religion is a huge part of the girls lives.  Everyday they attend daily prayer meetings and constantly are reminded of the good fortune God has bestowed on them.

Many of the people who sponsor the girls are going through difficult times economically.  This leaves the orphanage's future up to God alone.

Heading to Sunday Mass.

The girls all take part in daily chores.
